About

Shane Koh

I’m Shane Koh — a historian and educator who works at the intersection of cinema, memory, and material culture.

My background in History and War Studies, combined with more than a decade in the classroom, shapes how I read film posters: not as collectibles, but as cultural artefacts that reveal how societies imagine and project themselves.

My talks draw from a growing collection of posters from the US, British, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Thai artistic traditions. I use them to explore the lives and afterlives of films, the changing culture of cinemas, and the ways images shape collective memory.

Whether speaking to schools, cinemas, cultural institutions or general audiences, my aim is simple: to deepen visual literacy, spark curiosity, and help audiences see familiar films—and familiar spaces—in new and more meaningful ways.
